Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, a non-profit international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has collected and delivered more than 100 million shoe box gifts to boys and girls in more than 130 countries! The shoe box gifts go on quite the journey and are distributed through the local church leaders, giving them a tool to reach the lost in their communities and empowering them to do follow-up ministry through the “Greatest Journey” discipleship program.
Westwood has been collecting and shipping shoe box gifts since 2007, and we have had the privilege of being a Relay Center (collection site) since 2009. Since 2009, we have had more than 32,000 shoebox gifts come through our doors.  It is an honor and a privilege to be the hands and feet of Jesus!
Here are just a few ways you can be a part of this amazing ministry!
PRAY – Please be in constant prayer for this special ministry. Pray for the volunteers, the leadership, and for the children who have received and will be receiving shoe box gifts. Pray that they will come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.
PACK – Get geared up to pack shoe boxes! National Collection Week isn’t until November, but you can think Operation Christmas Child year round. Start collecting shoe boxes and treasures to fill them up. 1 shoe box=1 child=1 gospel opportunity.
GIVE – Consider giving financially to help with the shipping costs.
VOLUNTEER – Please consider volunteering at our Westwood Relay Center. Over 6,000 shoe box gifts are typically dropped off at our location, and we had lots of volunteers who helped receive those precious gifts and send them on their way. We are also looking for some year-round connect volunteers to join our team.
Operation Christmas Child has a special place in the heart of Westwood Church. If you are interested in serving through OCC and would like more information please contact our office.
