    Praying for Kids and Families

"You are not alone...You will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will hear you." Jeremiah 29:12

MOMs & DADs -  Choose one time each day that you pray for:

  • Your child's teacher
  • Your child to be nurtured and feel loved while at school
  • Your child to share the love of Jesus through his/her actions and words

Wondering how to get in the habit of praying for these things?  Commit to pray for each one during a regular activity of every day...i.e...pray for your child's teacher while you are driving to work, pray for your child to feel nurtured and loved each time you drink your favorite daily beverage...

AND DON'T FORGET TO PRAY WITH YOUR KIDS BEFORE THEY GO TO SCHOOL!

 Prayer Ideas & Resources

A New Approach? Praying for Your Kids

·         Praise God for his love, the day, your family and all you are thankful for each time you brush your teeth.

·         Assign one room to each of your family members?each time you tidy or work in that room pray for that person.

·         Each time you are at a stoplight, pray for the child in your family that most needs you to STOP and pray for them specifically.

·         Each time you pull into the drive way, before you get out of the car, ask God to give you patience, endurance, love and understanding as a parent today.

·         Each time you wash your hands, ask God to protect your children, invade their hearts and help them to make good choices.

5 Finger Prayer

1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."

2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.

3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.

4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger, as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. And lastly comes our little finger the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

One of the best and most rewarding things we can do as a parent  is PRAY for our children, families, relationships and the promise that we know a God who is faithful and ever-present!  But, when the list of things to do gets longer and longer each day - sometimes it is hard to fit it in!  Following are some creative ways to keep up with your to-do list and still faithfully and daily pray.  Be blessed!
