Brix Masons

When you attend Brix on Wednesday nights, you are assigned to a small group.  Every Wednesday we break up into  these small groups to learn and grow as a close group of friends.   The volunteer leaders of our small groups are known as "Masons" because they construct and strengthen the student's relationships with Jesus.  Masons truly are the mortar that bonds Brix together.

Hi, I'm Derek Varilek.  My wife Stephanie and I have been members of Westwood Church for about eight years.  We have four kids ranging in ages from four to seventeen.  We've always felt that Westwood has such great programming for kids and I have worked with various age groups over the years.  I have been working with the middle school ministry for the past several years and found it to be a great fit for me because I can be just as goofy as some of the kids!  I've attended the last two Power Connection conferences with the Brix kids and they've been incredible experiences.  It's amazing to watch them grow in their faith and I think I learn just as much as they do along the way.  I'm the only one in the group with gray hair and hanging out with the Brix kids keeps me young!

Hi, my name is Jim Wagner and I have attended Westwood Church since I was born.  I attended the youth program all the way up through High School.  Shortly after graduation, I left for the Navy and was gone for 4 years.  Upon returning home, I met and married my wife of 19 years, Deb.  We have 2 beautiful children named Kristina and Kylie.  Both of the girls are presently involved with the high school youth group, Revolutions.  I want to be a Mason for the simple fact that I think kids at this age are the most vulnerable and also the most curious.  I would like to see that they are given the same chance that I was to learn about the Lord.

My name is Lindsey Kramer and I started attending Westwood Church when I was in High School.  I am currently finishing my Associates Degree in Nursing at the College of Saint Mary.  I will graduate in May '08 with my Bachelors of Nursing and a Minor in Spanish.  I have discovered that one of my greatest passions is to help children and I am so glad that I have the opportunity to work with all of these amazing kids!  It is so rewarding to watch God work in their lives and to see them choose Him as their Lord and Savior.  Sometimes, I think God put me in this position so these children could teach me life lessons. . .but I hope that I am also making a difference in their lives as well!

I am excited to be a part of the Brix team!  I feel this is a very important age in a young person's life.  I want to share in the mission of equipping these kids with Christ.  My wife, Melody, and I have two boys of our own.  Grant is 12 and is a part of the Brix ministry and Bryce is 8.  Melody and I have been involved with young people for several years.  I enjoy being around teenagers and am looking forward to working with the junior high youth at Westwood.  My prayer is that Christ will shine through my life to our kids.
