Masons

When you attend Brix on Wednesday nights, you are assigned to a small group.  Every Wednesday, we break up into  these small groups to learn and grow as a close group of friends.  The volunteer leaders of our small groups are known as "Masons" because they help to construct and strengthen the students' relationships with Jesus.

Masons truly provide the mortar that bond Brix together.

WHY DID YOU BECOME A MASON?:
I believe that middle-school is the time where you start to make your own calls on who you are going to be in life.  Middle-school is the time when you are first able to decide and understand what it means to have a life that models Christ.  That's why I joined this team; to build middle-school students into more fully devoted disciples of Jesus.

It’s a great feeling to see them eager to hear about what God has to offer. What tops it off is when we go on our mission trips and really get to know them and see how deep their really is.

WHY DID YOU BECOME A MASON?:
John forced me, just kidding. I have always wanted to work with kids and I feel that the jr. high age group is a perfect fit for me. I went to the youth group here when I was a teen and I just remember back then thinking how cool it would be to be an adult sponsor when I got older. I thought if I could help just 1 kid half as good as my sponsors helped me then I would be doing something. Working with these kids I believe has done more for me then I ever thought possible. My prayer for these kids is that they all find the love and peace of Christ as there Savior, and if I can be of any help then I hope they won’t be afraid to ask me. LOVE YA ALL

WHY DID YOU BECOME A MASON?:
As we take a stroll down memory lane, I'm sure we can all remember our awkward and difficult middle school years. As a mason, I want to help these kids 'survive' their teenage years when they feel like no one understands.  I also hope to help them develop strong vales, so they will be able to take a stand for what they believe in. It is quite a task to grow up and learn how to behave like an adult. So for now, I hope to teach them how to enjoy their childhood ... while still giving them the tools they need to live a God-Filled Life!!  :D

FAVORITE FLAVOR OF JELLY BEAN:
Just to note: I strongly dislike jelly beans ... but will eat Jelly Belly's on occasion (which I do not consider jelly beans at all, but rather a tasteful candy that just happens to have a similar shape)

WHY DID YOU BECOME A MASON?:
I became a Mason two years ago when I was asked to fill in temporarily.  It ended up being a doorway into a Middle School world I never dreamed that I would enter.  I believe that my faith in Jesus brought me to serve where I needed to be here at Westwood.  The 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are AWESOME and I enjoy spending my Wednesday nights with them.  As I get to know these kids, I am in awe at how I can witness them begin to understand their own faith.  I get to watch them build a stronger relationship with Jesus.  It is through this Ministry that I too get to learn right along with them and I am excited to say that my own relationship with God has become stronger as I walk this path!  I love being a Mason because Middle School Students Rock!

WHY DID YOU BECOME A MASON?:
When BRIX got back from Kansas City, I heard a lot about their trip.  It brought back some really great memories I have of my youth group years, which I think sort of stirred up a new passion in me.  I felt torn between the choice of being in choir or working with either high school or middle school kids.  My answer fell into my lap when our new worship director changed choir practice to every other Wednesday.  BRIX was needing another Mason, and Kristin heard I was looking to plug in.  I have really enjoyed getting to know the 6th grade girls even though I’m with them only every other Wednesday.  They are at a great age where being a Christian really starts to take on a whole new meaning for them.  It is so exciting to be a part of that!

WHY DID YOU BECOME A MASON?:
I wanted to become a Mason so I could spend my time helping shape the lives of middle schoolers.  I know that it can be a challenging time when they feel like they are being pulled in many directions and have to make choices about who they want to become.   Hopefully, I can give some perspective on what they are dealing with in life, good or bad.  Plus, hanging out with middle schoolers is a good time and I love to have fun.
